Dutch tourist seriously injured after fall from Austrian rock face
A 33-year-old Dutch man suffered serious injuries after falling from a steep rock face in the Austrian Alps on Saturday, according to police in the state of Salzburg. The man was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred while the man was on a sledding trip with friends in the Flachau ski resort. During the ride, he lost control and veered off into a wooded area near the track.
He later sent a video message to his group, stating he was making his way back, but he is believed to have lost his way in the forest before falling from a rocky slope.
Emergency services were called after the man failed to return. Rescuers located him with severe injuries and transported him to a hospital. Authorities have not disclosed further details about his condition.
In a separate incident in the Austrian Alps, a 60-year-old Dutch man was seriously injured while skiing in Sölden, Tirol, on Saturday. He suffered a hard fall and was airlifted to a hospital in Innsbruck by emergency helicopter.
