Christopher Froome took the win in the tough TT over 32km with two category 2 climbs. Only the Spanish Alberto Contador and Joaquin Rodriguez came close to the yellow jersey.

During the exciting finale of stage 16, Alberto Contador fell during the descent almost causing Chris Froome to fall too.

Stage 16 from Vaison-La-Romaine to Gap started immediately with attacks. No attacks from the contenders of the general classifications but from riders who desperately want to earn some money. The first break out was of a group of 20 riders where later on 11 more cyclists joined. This group didn’t make it and was caught after just 29km.

The riders had a well deserved rest on Monday but they don’t think about resigning to the overwhelming power of Christopher Froome.

Alberto Contador admits that Froome is in good shape and that it will be difficult to beat him on the climbs. The cunning Spaniard however, thinks that there are always tactical possibilities and he is still in the race for the first spot. “Position number two as well as position number ten don’t count, I go for number one.”

While on Friday his main competitors won time on Froome, he put everything back to order on Sunday when he won the stage to Mount Ventoux.

Stage 13

Friday was a very surprising stage. Stage 13, which was supposed to be a ‘boring’ one, became a thriller instead. It was well-known that the riders would encounter hard winds during the flat stage. Only a few teams saw the advantage of these hard winds.
