Fire destroys home in Den Bosch, arson suspected
A house on Acaciasingel was destroyed by a fire in the early hours of Sunday morning, with authorities suspecting arson. The blaze began around 2 a.m. when a parked car, believed to be in gear, rolled into the home and caught fire. Investigators later found a firelighter on the ground where the car had been parked, Omroep Brabant reports.
The residents of the house managed to escape before the fire spread. Emergency personnel evaluated them for smoke inhalation but reported no serious injuries.
The damage to the house is extensive, with the front window shattered and the living room and hallway completely blackened by smoke and flames. A scooter parked in front of the house was also destroyed in the blaze.
The fire caused additional damage to a neighboring property, which sustained smoke and soot damage.
The incident startled residents in the normally quiet neighborhood. A neighbor who called emergency services described the scene as unprecedented for the area. "Everyone knows each other here; it's always been a peaceful street," she said.
A towing company removed the burned-out vehicle from the scene overnight. Police are conducting an investigation and will carry out a neighborhood inquiry on Sunday to gather more information.
