Video: Police chase in Amsterdam ends with suspect climbing onto metro station’s roof
A police car chase in Amsterdam ended with the suspect climbing onto the roof of the Noord metro station in a final attempt to evade capture. A police response team arrested him on the roof and brought him down at around 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, a police spokesperson confirmed to NOS after reporting by the local broadcaster AT5.
Patrolling officers noticed the man driving dangerously on Rozengracht at around 8:15 p.m. and signaled him to stop. He ignored the signal and drove off. The police gave chase.
The car chase ended on Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg in the Noord district when the suspect crashed into another car. He got out and fled further on foot, eventually climbing onto the metro station’s roof.
The police responded with multiple units and started a conversation with the man, hoping to prevent him from harming himself, according to AT5. A police response team eventually removed him from the roof at around 10:50 p.m. and arrested him.
The police cordoned off the station and surrounding area during this operation, halting metro traffic to and from Noord station for a while. According to AT5, neither the suspect nor the occupants of the other car were injured in the accident on Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg.
