Four suspects remain detained after fatal police raid in Rotterdam

Four individuals arrested during a police raid in the Rotterdam neighborhood of Kralingen early Saturday remain in custody, authorities said. The raid was connected to a December 30, 2024 murder investigation in Amsterdam.

The operation began when an arrest team entered a residence on Speelmanstraat and came under fire. Police returned fire, fatally wounding a 30-year-old man who was a primary suspect in the Clauskindereweg murder case. The man, who had no fixed address, was reportedly killed after firing on officers.

A 29-year-old man, also without a fixed address, was injured in the exchange of gunfire. He was treated at a hospital and remains in custody, facing suspicion of involvement in the murder of a 33-year-old Amsterdam man found dead on Clauskindereweg.

In addition to the two men, two Rotterdam women, aged 27 and 52, were arrested during the raid. The younger woman sustained injuries during the operation and is hospitalized under police supervision. Authorities have stated that neither of the women is suspected of involvement in the Amsterdam murder, but their roles in the broader investigation are still under review.

The raid is part of an ongoing investigation into the death of a 33-year-old Amsterdam man, whose body was discovered on December 30, 2024, in a basement storage unit on Clauskindereweg. The man’s death is believed to be the result of foul play, with police launching an intensive investigation shortly after the body was found by a concerned neighbor who alerted authorities.

Separately, a 20-year-old man was arrested on Friday night in Hoofddorp in connection with the same murder. His specific role in the incident remains unclear, but police have confirmed his detention as part of the broader investigation.

Under Dutch law, suspects must be brought before an examining magistrate within three days of arrest unless an extension is granted. The magistrate can authorize detention for up to 14 days, with the possibility of further extensions for up to 90 days.

The National Criminal Investigation Department continues to investigate the connections between the Rotterdam raid and the Amsterdam murder. Authorities are focused on understanding the roles of those involved in this violent and complex case.
