12-year-old boy found dead under suspicious circumstances; suspect arrested

A 12-year-old boy was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Sunday afternoon in a home on Blekerslaan in the Oosterpoort neighborhood of Groningen. Police have arrested a 45-year-old man in connection with the incident.

Police have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim, nor have they shared details about the circumstances of the boy’s death. "The suspect has been taken to the station for questioning," Kok said, adding, "We are still investigating what exactly happened."

The boy’s death was reported to authorities around 2 p.m. "We received a report that a deceased person was in the home," police spokesperson Anne Kok said. "When officers arrived, they found a 12-year-old boy who was deceased."

The house and surrounding area have been cordoned off as forensic teams conduct a detailed search for evidence. "We are conducting a thorough investigation both inside and around the home," Kok said.

In addition to collecting physical evidence, officers are speaking with local residents to gather potential leads. "We are engaging with neighbors to see if they have any information that can help us in this investigation," Kok stated.

The suspect, a 45-year-old man from Groningen, was detained shortly after the incident. Police have not revealed whether the suspect was known to law enforcement prior to this case.
