Fire breaks out in Delfzijl apartment, no injuries reported
A fire erupted in an apartment on Landstraat in central Delfzijl on Saturday afternoon, filling the densely built area with heavy smoke. According to the Groningen Safety Region, all occupants evacuated the building safely, and no injuries were reported.
The fire was declared “under control” shortly after 8 p.m., although it had not yet been fully extinguished, officials said. The fire’s spread was successfully contained, preventing further damage to neighboring properties.
To facilitate firefighting efforts, firefighters created holes in the roof of the building, allowing them to tackle the blaze from the outside. Two aerial platforms were used in the operation. Crews remain on-site to extinguish lingering flames and complete the mopping-up process.
No information about the cause of the fire has been released. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
