Cleaner who fatally stabbed his colleague in Utrecht is sentenced to 12 years in prison

The court in Utrecht sentenced a 53-year-old man to 12 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of a colleague at the music center TivoliVredenburg. The victim and the culprit were working together as cleaners in the early morning hours of November 19, 2023, in the building in the city center of Utrecht when they got into an argument, which eventually led to the stabbing. The victim, who was 41 years of age, died at the scene.

The court did not believe that the suspect acted in self-defense as he claimed. They ruled that the man sought the confrontation. The victim ran away from the suspect after the first stabbing motion.
