Two hurt in morning shooting at Amsterdam apartment; Gunman at large

Two people were injured in a shooting at an apartment complex on Grubbehoeve in Amsterdam-Zuidoost on Wednesday morning. The first report of shots fired came in at approximately 8:37 a.m., prompting authorities to dispatch police and two ambulances to the scene within minutes. A trauma helicopter was also initially deployed.

Upon arrival, police found one male victim, who was alert and conscious, according to a police spokesperson. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. A second individual later sought medical care independently.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident. Forensic teams are collecting evidence at the scene, while detectives are interviewing witnesses to determine the sequence of events. Authorities have yet to make any arrests and are urging individuals with information to come forward.

Earlier in the day, a property on Slotermeerlaan in Amsterdam Nieuw-West was targeted in another shooting incident around 4 a.m. Two suspects reportedly fled on a motor scooter, and no injuries were reported. This incident also remains under investigation.

The recent shootings have reignited concerns about public safety and crime in Amsterdam. The political party Denk has called for a debate with the mayor, criticizing existing policies. “Entrepreneurs in Amsterdam are increasingly facing severe consequences due to crime,” said Denk in a statement. They urged the municipality to adopt more equitable and humane measures to protect businesses and residents.
