Police shoot knife-wielding suspect who fell off a scooter

Police shot a 43-year-old man during an arrest on Holstraat in Haaren on Monday night. The man, who is from Haaren, was injured but managed to walk to an ambulance for treatment.

Authorities had been called multiple times earlier in the evening due to the suspect’s aggressive behavior. He allegedly broke a window and waved a knife before fleeing on a scooter around 9:30 p.m., prompting a police pursuit.

The chase ended on Holstraat, where the suspect fell from his scooter. According to police, the situation escalated to such a level of threat that an officer fired a shot at the man.

“A shot was fired during the arrest of a suspect on Holstraat,” Politie Tilburg wrote on X. “The 43-year-old man from Haaren was injured but was able to walk to the ambulance, where he is currently receiving care.”

Authorities have sealed off the area around the shooting. The independent police watchdog will conduct an investigation, as is standard in cases involving police firearm use.
