Police officer shoots suspect in Goes after report of possible firearm
A police shooting in Goes overnight left a man wounded after officers responded to a report of a disturbance in which a firearm may have been involved, NOS reports.
The incident took place overnight from Saturday to Sunday in Zeeland. Around 1:20 a.m., a police officer fired his service weapon at a suspect during what authorities described as an altercation involving a possible firearm.
The man was injured in the shooting. Police have not released any information about his current condition. Officials said it remains unclear what exactly led up to the moment the officer opened fire. “The officer felt compelled to shoot the suspect,” police said.
The Rijksrecherche, the Dutch national investigative body responsible for examining incidents involving the use of police firearms, has launched an investigation.
Such reviews are standard procedure in cases where officers discharge their weapons and are intended to determine whether the use of force was justified.
