Two new suspects arrested for attempt to assassinate Iranian activist in Haarlem
The police arrested two new suspects for involvement in an attempt to murder an Iranian activist in Haarlem this summer. A 26-year-old man was arrested at Eindhoven Airport on Friday, and a 30-year-old man was arrested on Monday, the police said. Also on Monday, the police put Sami Bekal Bounouare on the national wanted list for this and two other crimes.
The attempted assassination happened during the early hours of June 6 in Haarlem. The police haven’t released any details about what happened, other than that the target was an Iranian activist and publicist.
The police previously arrested three suspects for the attempted assassination - a 38-year-old Tunisian man, a 27-year-old Colombian man, and a 27-year-old woman from Den Bosch. They are all still in custody.
Investigators believe the assassination attempt was orchestrated by Sami Bekal Bounouare, who the police placed on the national wanted list on Monday along with a 50,000 euro reward for information about his whereabouts.
Bounouare is also wanted for an attempt to assassinate Spanish politician Alejo Vidal-Quadras in Madrid in November 2023 and for the murder of 37-year-old Wisam Al-Albassi in Capelle aan Den IJssel in 2021.
The Tunisian man and Den Bosch woman in custody for the Haarlem assassination attempt are also suspects in the attempt to kill Vidal Quadras.
