Woman, 39, hurt in Groningen bar shooting; Gunman still on the run
The police identified the victim of a shooting at a Groningen bar on Thursday as a 39-year-old woman from the city. She was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. The man who shot her is still at large.
The shooting happened at a bar on Siersteenlaan in Groningen city at around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The police did not give an update on the woman’s condition.
The suspected perpetrator is a man in his forties and possibly of Turkish descent. He has short black hair and was wearing a dark-colored jogging suit, a dark blue shirt, and a black cap at the time of the shooting, the police said in a description shared on Burgernet.
A local resident told RTV Noord that there are sometimes fights at the bar in the evenings. “But the fact that someone just walks into a pub with a gun at 5:30 p.m. and shoots someone there, you can certainly call that extraordinary. Yes, this is very close to home, in your own neighborhood.”
Two other locals described the incident as “scary” to the broadcaster. “The neighborhood is only getting worse,” one said. According to the other, an explosive was left in front of the bar a while ago. “You don’t want to think about what could have happened.”
