Dutch man dies in Mallorca vacation home; Another in critical condition

A 21-year-old Dutch tourist died in a holiday on the Spanish island of Mallorca on Tuesday, likely from carbon monoxide poisoning. A second Dutchman, also aged 21, was hospitalized, the local newspaper Diario de Mallorca reported.

The Dutchmen had rented a villa in Playa de Palma, a popular tourist destination. The ambulance service responded to the home on Calle Violer at around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving multiple reports. It is unclear who made the reports.

First responders were unable to resuscitate the deceased tourist. They rushed the second Dutchman to a hospital in critical condition.

The Spanish police are investigating what happened but suspect a defective gas burner may have caused carbon monoxide poisoning. According to the newspaper, the two Dutch tourists had no signs of violence on their bodies.

It has been a rough summer for Dutch tourists. On Monday, four Dutch tourists were hospitalized with stab wounds after getting into a fight with a group of Irish tourists in the Portuguese seaside resort of Albufeira. On Sunday, three Dutch teens got hurt when they fell three meters from their holiday home in Lloret de Mar, Spain. The balustrade of the balcony broke while they were leaning on it to take a photo. Two were seriously hurt.

Last week, the body of a Dutch woman with Alzheimer’s was found days after she went missing from a French campsite. A Dutch man was found dead in a van in France, and a Dutch woman got hurt by a cow in Austria.
