No Dutch medals after first 2 days of Olympics; First time in 28 years

The first two official days of the Olympic Games in Paris were a bit disappointing for TeamNL. No Dutch athlete made it onto the podium. It is the first time in 28 years that the Netherlands enters day three of the Games with no medals on the scoreboard, NOS reports.

On day two of the Paris Olympics, the Dutch archers and mountain biker Puck Pieterse ended just short of the podium in fourth place. Swimmer Arno Kamminga came in sixth place.

The last time the Netherlands was still medal-less after two days at the Olympics was during the 1996 games in Atlanta in the United States. During those Games, swimmer Kirsten Vleighuis and judokas Claudia Zwiers and Mark Huiznga won the first medals on day three.

Eight years earlier, in Seoul, South Korea, the Netherlands only won its first medal on the fifth day.

Today, judoka Julie Beurskens could put the Netherlands on the medal board. She is the only Dutch athlete up for an individual medal. In the teams, the Eventing team consisting of Jannke Boonzaaijer, Sanne de Jong, and Raf Kooremans could win a medal, although they are tenth in the general ranking going into the last day.
