Dutch Royals to receive Olympic medalists in Hague palace next week

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will receive the Dutch athletes who won medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics at Huis ten Bosch palace in The Hague on Tuesday. It is tradition for the Dutch royals to meet with Olympic medal winners and congratulate them on their achievements.

The athletes will meet with the King and Queen after their official reception in the Glazen Zaal in The Hague, organized by the Ministry of Public Health, Welfare, and Sports. Prime Minister Dick Schoof and State Secretary Vincent Karremans of Youth, Prevention, and Sports will attend that ceremony.

As of 13:20 p.m. on Thursday, TeamNL has won 21 medals in the 2024 Summer Games in Paris: ten gold, five silver, and five bronze. The Netherlands is ninth in the medal ranking.

Sharon van Rouwendaal won TeamNL’s tenth gold medal on Thursday in the 10-kilometer marathon in the Seine, making her the first open-water swimmer with two Olympic gold medals and the first with three medals in total. On Tuesday, the Dutch men’s cycling team beat the world record for the team sprint. The Dutch rowers have won a staggering eight medals, accounting for four of TeamNL’s gold medals, three silvers, and one bronze.

Earlier this week, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima already congratulated the Dutch athletes on their performances so far. “The Netherlands wins one historic medal after another in Paris,” the Royals wrote in a statement released by the government information service RVD on Tuesday. “After a thrilling final, the Dutch 3x3 basketball players won gold. And on Saturday, Karolien Florijn became the first Dutch woman to win Olympic gold in the skiff. Followed by gold for the 4x400 meter mixed relay team after an exciting race in Stade de France. Congratulations on these fantastic performances!”
