Train service at Amsterdam Central Station resumed as planned

Train traffic around Amsterdam Centraal resumed as planned on Sunday morning, an NS spokesperson announced. Due to construction work, no train traffic was possible from and through Amsterdam Centraal on Saturday. "What was supposed to be running again is running," said the NS spokesperson.

However, the spokesperson points out that there are still restrictions around Amsterdam Centraal on Sunday. According to NS, the additional travel time is up to 15 minutes. As a result, there will be no trains between Amsterdam Muiderpoort and Weesp, but a stop bus will be used instead. Furthermore, very few trains will run between Amsterdam Centraal and Sloterdijk on Sunday and Monday. According to ProRail, this means that additional changes will be necessary, and part of the route will have to be covered by bus or metro. International trains will also not stop at Amsterdam Centraal on Sunday and Monday.

In addition, tracks 14 and 15 will not be accessible for a year due to construction work, and a large part of the eastern passenger tunnel on the IJ side of the station will be closed.

From Tuesday to next Sunday, there will be fewer trains between Amsterdam Centraal and Hilversum/Almere, and there will be changes to the timetable and departure and arrival tracks on other routes, as ProRail previously reported. Travelers are advised to carefully check the timetable before departure and plan for extra crowds.

According to NS and the rail operator ProRail, the fact that no trains ran to, from, and through Amsterdam Centraal all day on Saturday was unprecedented. The next phase of the station's renovation began on Saturday. According to the spokesperson, it was very quiet at Amsterdam Centraal on Saturday, but other stations such as Zuid, Bijlmer Arena, and Sloterdijk were busier.
