Two men suspected of fatal shooting at a trailer park in Oss are acquitted in court

The court in Den Bosch acquitted both suspects of fatally shooting Peter Netten (30) in June 2018 at a trailer park in Oss. Due to "a lack of conviction," they could not establish who was responsible for the death. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) had recommended ten years in prison against 30-year-old Anton R. for manslaughter.

According to the OM, the shooting in Oss came as a result of "Possibly one of the stupidest arguments ever," which occurred after a party. Netten was allegedly angry that he had not been brought home by Kaan D. (28), who is a fellow suspect in the shooting. The argument led to a fight, which ended up in Netten getting shot five times.

D. confessed days later that he was the shooter. However, the OM claims that this story was made up by Martien R., who is Anton's father and a well-known criminal from Brabant. This came forth from tapped conversations. Martien was quoted as saying: "it is better that he gets 15 years than our boy." The court also suspects that D. wanted to keep his fellow suspect out of trouble. "This does not mean that he was the one that fired the shot."

The court said that the investigation was manipulated to obscure the truth in many ways. After his confession, D. constantly invoked his right to remain silent. R. also did not answer any questions.

There is no direct evidence that he held the gun, like fingerprints or traces of DNA. "It is not clear who fired the fatal shot and when. The court cannot point at anyone with the necessary certainty."

The court did convict D. to 15 days in prison for assaulting Netten. He broke his nose in a fight before the shooting.

R. was sentenced to ten years in prison on appeal for, among other things, arms and drug trafficking last year. D. was sentenced to seven years in prison in a major cocaine case last week.
