Code Yellow no longer in effect but rain, flooding and thunderstorms expected

The Code Yellow weather warning issued for a large part of the country on Friday evening due to prolonged rain and thunder is no longer in force. Around midnight, Code Green was again in force across the country. The rain led to considerable traffic jams on Dutch roads early on Friday afternoon. At around 4 p.m., the ANWB counted over 140 traffic jams with a total length of over 800 kilometers on the A and N roads.

Last night's heavy rainfall led to flooding in several places in Noord-Brabant on Saturday morning. In the West Brabant towns of Kruisland, Halsteren, Steenbergen, and Wouw, near the border with Zeeland, the streets are flooded, and water is pouring into the houses, the Central and West-Brabant Safety Region reports. The fire department and the affected municipalities are running the sewage pumps "at full speed" to drain the water as quickly as possible.

The safety region advised affected residents to turn off the electricity in their homes and to seek higher floors if the water pours in. "Avoid flooded streets unless it is really necessary to help someone."

In Kruisland, a district of the municipality of Steenbergen, part of one of the village's thoroughfares has been closed off. "Through traffic has therefore been blocked," the municipality reported.

On Friday evening, Code Yellow was in effect in a large part of the Netherlands due to prolonged rain and thunder. Reports of flooding also came from other parts of the country. In Roermond, an emergency dam of about 150 meters was constructed at an apartment complex during the night from Friday to Saturday to prevent rainfall from causing nuisance there.

The meteorological institute KNMI reported that local thunderstorms may still occur in the north of the country during the night from Friday to Saturday, but less severe than on Friday evening.

In general, it is very cloudy, and there are periods of rainfall throughout the country. The wind is weak and comes from different directions. According to Weeronline, the Netherlands will not be getting rid of showers for the time being. Even though it will gradually become drier from the east this morning, light rain and thundershowers may develop again on Saturday afternoon.

Locally, there may be heavy showers with thunder, hail, and squalls. However, it will get a bit warmer, and the temperatures will reach up to 17 degrees by the sea and 20 degrees in the east and northeast.
