Drill rappers sentenced to 11 years for fatal stabbing on Scheveningen pier

The court in The Hague sentenced Amsterdam drill rappers Darrel R. and Roan W. to 11 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Cennethson Janga on the pier in Scheveningen last year. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) had demanded 13 years in prison against the two, the Volkskrant reports.

According to the OM, the suspects and victim belonged to two rival drill rap groups. L. and W. belonged to Amsterdam group 73 de Pijp, Janga to Rotterdam group 24. After a long period of arguments and threats on social media, the two groups agreed to meet on the pier on August 9 and 10 last year to prove who the most dangerous drill rap group in the country was.

Security footage of August 10 showed the two groups confronting each other on the pier, the OM said. One of the Rotterdam rappers pulled a firearm, but it did not fire. The Rotterdam group then fled, and chaos broke out. Janga ran in between L. and W., both of whom made "stabbing motions," the OM said.

Janga sustained two stab wounds, one of which went through his heart. He collapsed a short distance further and died in hospital later that day. Three knives were found in a nearby dumpster. On them were Janga's blood and W. and L.'s DNA. It is unclear which Amsterdam drill rapper inflicted the fatal stab, but the court considered both guilty of Janga's death.
