Taxi driver turns self in after hitting 9-year-old girl in Amsterdam

A taxi driver who seriously injured a 9-year-old girl in a hit-and-run in Amsterdam on Thursday morning, turned himself in to the police later that day. .He was arrested, Het Parool reports.

The accident happened at the intersection of Admiraal de Ruijterweg and Jan van Galenstraat. Shorty before this hit-and-run, the taxi driver also hit a cyclist. The cyclist wasn't injured.

Shortly before the 33-year-old man showed up at a police station, the police already found the car he was driving. The driver was arrested and is suspected of causing a serious accident and leaving the scene of an accident. It is not clear for which company the taxi driver works, though safe traffic association VVN assumed it was Uber in a call to ban the ride-hailing company from the road.

The current condition of the 9-year-old girl is unknown. A police spokesperson told Het Parool that she sustained multiple broken bones.
