Man arrested for threatening video aimed at Nijmegen school

The police arrested a man for positing a video online on Monday evening in which the Mondial College in Nijmegen is threatened with a firearm. The video shows an automatic firearm being loaded by someone, accompanied by the text: "Do not go to Mondial College tomorrow", NU.nl reports.

The police investigated the video and concluded "that there was no actual threat", according to the newspaper. The video has since been taken offline.

Mondial College rector Gert-Jan Jansen said on the school's site that lessons will continue as usual on Tuesday. He also said that the suspect already apologized. "Around 0:00 a second item was posted on social media with the announcement: 'Boys and Girls this video is old and fake I found this on another account and posted no stress and I apologize that it ended up like this'."

"As you can imagine, we are also very unpleasantly surprised and shocked by this situation", Jansen said. "Based on the currently available information, the police advised to keep the school open tomorrow [Tuesday]. We are in close contact with the police an will inform you if new information is available."

Mondial College is a secondary school that has two locations in Nijmegen, one in the Leuvensbroek district and the other in Meeuwse Acker.
