Rabobank pays €7 mil. to victims of safety deposit box robbery

So far Rabobank paid out 7 million euros to victims of a safety deposit box robbery in Oudenbosch in March. That means that around 60 percent of the victims have been compensated. The bank expects to reach 90 percent in March, Omroep Brabant reports.

A bank employee called compensating the victims a "very difficult task". It is hard to determine what exactly each of the 330 safety deposit boxes contained, he explained at a proforma hearing in the case against two security guards suspected of helping the robbers. The two suspects, 46-year-old Agron K. from Roosendaal and 43-year-old Henri van W. from Etten Leur, worked for security company EBN in Breda, which provided security for the Rabobank in Oudenbosch.

The authorities have at least two other suspects in the picture, who they believe were the persons who actually robbed the safety security boxes. Some Dutch news sources report that they too are former employees of EBN. Millions of euros of items were stolen from the boxes. The robbery was discovered early in March.

A safety deposit box at Rabobank can be insured for a maximum of 45 thousand euros. But the bank will consider claims for more from victims who can show that the content of their box was more valuable. They have to provide evidence like photos, purchase receipts, bank statements and valuation certificates.
