Amsterdam Pride possible target of foiled terrorist plot: report
A group of seven men arrested in September for planning terrorist attacks in the Netherlands, was considering Amsterdam Pride as a possible target, the main suspect said to an undercover police officer, RTL Nieuws reports based on information from multiple sources.
The attack did not happen, because the suspects did not have the necessary weapons in time for Pride - one of Amsterdam's biggest events of the year.
The Public Prosecutor would not confirm or deny that Pride was mentioned as a target. A spokesperson emphasized that the group's preparations did not reach a stage where a specific target was chosen, according to newspaper AD.
RTL also reports that four of the seven suspects were arrested immediately after receiving terrorism training at a holiday park in Weert. During that training two undercover police officers showed the four suspects how to use firearms and they tried on bomb vests. An anti-terrorism team overpowered and arrested the four suspects shortly after they left the training session. The other three were arrested in Arnhem.
