"Important breakthrough" in 1998 murder of Dutch boy
There's been an "important breakthrough" in the investigation into the murder of 11-year-old Nicky Verstappen in 1998, the police announced on Tuesday. A press conference will be held at the Maastricht police station at noon.
Exactly what the breakthrough is, the police did not say. A large scale DNA kinship investigation may have resulted in a match. Earlier this year 14 thousand people voluntarily gave a DNA sample for this investigation.
Nicky Verstappen disappeared in August 1998 while on summer camp in Brunssummerheide in Limburg. His body was found near the camp the next day. To date no arrests have been made. "The investigation into the cause of death and circumstances has never stopped", the police said.
