Amsterdam police to update local residents on community center murder investigation

On Tuesday the police will be in the Amsterdam neighborhood of Wittenburg with a special truck to inform local residents about the latest developments in the investigation into the murder of Mohammed Bouchikhi, Het Parool reports.

The 17-year-old intern was shot and killed at the community center on Groot Wittenburgerstraat on January 26th. Two others were injured. Bouchikhi had no criminal record and it is believed that one of the two injured was the actual target of the attack. Gianni L. does have a criminal record and was targeted in another shooting a few months earlier.

The shooting upset the entire neighborhood, especially since many children spend time at the community center every day. A mobile police post and extra surveillance were installed in the area shortly after the shooting. On Tuesday the police hope to ease some of the local residents' concerns by answering their questions.

The police's Mobile Media Lab will be in the neighborhood from noon until 8:00 p.m. Community police officers and detectives working on the investigation will be present to answer questions. Anyone with information that may be relevant to the investigation can also speak to the police there.

On Tuesday night this case will be featured on television program Opsporing Verzocht, along with a reconstruction of the shooting.

The police are doing everything in their power to solve this murder, a spokesperson for the police said to Het Parool.

Morgen staan we in #Amsterdam met het @MobielMediaLab i.v.m. de moord op Mohammed Bouchikhi (17).
