Hand grenade found at Rotterdam nightclub

A hand grenade was found at nightclub Villa Thalia on Kruiskade in the center of Rotterdam on Wednesday. The explosive was lying at the entrance of the club, RTL Nieuws reports.

An employee spotted the object and called the police. The area around the club, including a nearby parking garage, was closed for some time for investigation.

Explosive experts were deployed to the scene. "The object was removed and taken to a safe place for further investigation", a spokesperson for the police said to NU.nl. He could not confirm whether the hand grenade was real.

Late last year a hand grenade was also found at Club Blu in Rotterdam. Finding hand grenades at bars and clubs is also not an uncommon occurrence in Amsterdam. Since February last year, explosives were found at club In the City on Leidseplein, Club ABE on Amstelstraat, a cocktail bar on Korte Leidsedwarsstraat, and a sisha lounge on Jan Evertsenstraat
