Three Dutch get suspended prison sentences for Prague waiter beating

Three of seven Dutch people arrested in Prague for assaulting a waiter were sentenced to suspended prison sentences of eight months and deported from the Czech Republic. Two Dutch are still in custody, NU.nl reports.

The group of Dutch men were arrested at the Prague airport on Monday for assaulting a waiter over the weekend. They attacked the waiter after he told them that they couldn't drink alcohol they brought themselves on a terrace. The waiter was hospitalized.

Two of the detained suspects, one of which is a police officer from Amsterdam, were released from custody shortly after they were arrested. The three given suspended prison sentences are also banned from entering the Czech Republic for five years.

The other two suspects are still in custody. They could face prison sentences of up to 10 years, according to the newspaper.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to NU.nl that two Dutch are still in custody in Prague, but would give no further details. Both asked for consular assistance.
