Man on disability vehicle seriously injured in hit-and-run; suspect arrested

A 55-year-old man riding a disability vehicle - an electric three wheeled bike - was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident during the night from Saturday to Sunday. The police arrested a 24-year-old man from Hoeven on Sunday.

According to the police, the victim was found seriously injured on Noordzeedijk between Stampersgat and Dinteloord by passersby around 4:20 a.m. on Sunday. The passersby called the emergency services, and the man from Dinteloord was rushed to hospital by ambulance.

At the scene of the accident, the police found a side mirror and hub cap of a silver-gray Ford Focus. The police spread the description of the car to the public, and a tip led to the arrest of the 24-year-old suspect. A breathalyzer showed that he was under the influence of alcohol, according to the police.

The police's Traffic Accident Analysis team did an investigation at the scene of the accident. The suspect's car was confiscated for investigation.
