Suspect arrested for crime writer's murder
A 24-year-old man from Utrecht was arrested for the murder of former criminal and crime writer Martin Kok in Laren in 2016.
The suspect was already detained in the prison in Alphen aan den Rijn on suspicion of another crime, RTL Nieuws reports. He was again arrested on Wednesday morning on suspicion of involvement in Kok's murder. He is in restricted custody, which means that he is only allowed contact with his lawyer.
The police would not comment further on the suspect's arrest or how he was involved in Kok's murder, according to the broadcaster.
Martin Kok was killed after visiting a sex club in Laren on December 8th, 2016. He was shot dead in his car.
This was not the first attempt on his life. A few hours before his murder in Laren, Kok unwittingly survived an attempt to shoot him in Amsterdam. In July 2016 a bomb was placed under Kok's car while he was eating at a restaurant in Amsterdam. The police later said that the bomb was as powerful as 40 hand grenades. In 2015 Kok was shot at while he was sleeping in his home.
Kok was a career criminal before he founded his crime blog Vlinderscrime, where he wrote about rumors from the criminal world about crimes and suspected perpetrators. Before that he was committed two murders and ran an escort agency up until 2014, according to the broadcaster.
Early in 2016 Kok published passages from a police interrogation of criminal king pin Willem Holleeder. A court later ordered him to remove the text from his blog.
