Evacuation: Explosive found near scene of Utrecht shooting
An explosive was found on Beatrixstraat in NIeuwegein on Thursday morning. The street was evacuated and closed off to the public while explosive experts investigate.
The police responded to the street around 6:30 a.m., police spokesperson Martin de Wit said to RTV Utrecht.
There is a school in the area. It is not yet clear whether students will be able to get to the school this morning.
Last week someone fired shots at a home on Beatrixstraat. Whether the two incidents are related, is not yet clear. "We still have to investigate a possible connection, but it is still too early to draw conclusions about that", the police said to the broadcaster.
A local resident told the broadcaster that there are many police officers and firefighters around the home that was shot at last week.
