Amsterdam to London fast trains start in April at €40 per seat

Eurostar is launching a new direct high speed train route between Amsterdam and London, the company announced on Friday. From April 4th there will be two fast trains a day between the Netherlands and United Kingdom. Tickets start from 40 euros per seat, one way.

The train will also stop at Rotterdam. This new service was preceded by a comprehensive testing of the Netherlands high speed network and the building of Eurostar terminals in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

The journey from London to Amsterdam will take 3 hours and 41 minutes, and to Rotterdam will be 40 minutes shorter. The return journey will be somewhat longer, because in the in the initial period passengers traveling from Amsterdam or Rotterdam to London will have to connect through Brussels, where passport controls and screenings will be done. This is a temporary measure while the governments of the Netherlands and UK are working on an agreement which will allow passport controls to be done in the Netherlands. Eurostar expects this will be completed by late 2019.

"The launch of our service to the Netherlands represents an exciting advance in cross-Channel travel and heralds a new era in international high speed rail", Nicolas Petrovic, Eurostar chief executive, said.
