Shootout in Amsterdam De Pijp leaves known criminal dead; Gunman also shot, escaped

Known criminal Anass el Ajjouid was gunned down on Cornelis Springerstraat in Amsterdam Zuid on Wednesday, the police confirmed. The gunman fled in a light colored car, possibly with a bullet wound himself.

The shooting happened around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Emergency services found the severely wounded El Ajjouid on the street. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. He died at the scene.

Witnesses told the police that the victim was gunned down by one man, who then fled in a light colored car. The car may have been driven by a second suspect. Shortly after the shooting a white Ford Transit was found burning on Buitensingel in Duivendrecht. The police are investigating whether this was the getaway car.

According to Het Parool, El Ajjouid belonged to the criminal gang around Benaouf A., one of two groups playing a major role in an underworld feud in Amsterdam, and has been on a hit list for a long time.

The police are investigating this latest underworld murder in Amsterdam and call on witnesses to come forward.
