Schiphol: Only come to the airport if your flight is actually leaving today

Schiphol airport is still struggling with delayed and canceled flights after Monday's heavy snowfall. The runways have been cleared of snow, so the number of takeoffs and landings at the airport is almost back to normal. But as many stranded passengers of the over 600 flights canceled on Monday are still at the airport waiting for an alternative flight, Schiphol is currently very crowded.

"Please be aware that it is currently extremely busy in the terminals. This is because travelers who were unable to fly yesterday may be flying today. Where possible, airlines have re-booked travelers on to other flights. Many airlines have canceled or delayed their flights for today. As a result, Schiphol encourages travelers to only come to the airport if their flight is actually scheduled to leave today." the airport said in a statement.

Early this morning, Schiphol already had over 200 delayed flights and more than a hundred cancellations. KLM alone canceled 25 international flights and 105 European flights because the necessary planes and crew members could not get to the airport, Het Parool reports.

Social media is flooded with complaints about the crowds at the airport, long delays, and canceled flights. KLM warns passengers that the airline's client service department has increasingly long waiting times due to all the calls from passengers that need to be booked on another flight.

All travelers are advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

Eindhoven Airport is also still reporting some delays ranging from a few minutes to up to an hour. Groningen Airport have two canceled flights to Copenhagen, and two arrivals from the same city were also canceled. Rotterdam The Hague airport reports three delayed arrivals.
