Rotterdam home riddled with bullets, hand grenade found on street
A home on Van Lennepstraat in the Rotterdam district of Spangen was the target of an attack early on Wednesday morning. Around 25 shots were fired at the home with an automatic firearm, and a hand grenade was found in front of the house, AD reports.
No one was injured in the incident, the police said in a statement. Local residents were woken by the gun fire around 3:15 a.m.
The police believe that the gunman wanted to fire through a first floor window of the home, and then throw in a hand grenade, according to the Telegraaf. But the window managed to stay in tact despite the multiple bullet holes. The grenade was found on the sidewalk in front of the house.
An explosive ordnance disposal team was called in to remove the grenade. While this was happening, the police instructed surrounding residents to stay inside their homes, for their own safety.
The motive of the attack is not yet clear. No details were released about who stays in the targeted house. The police are investigating and call on witnesses to come forward.
There are no indications that the shooting is related to a massive fire at a sisha lounge in Rotterdam city center on Tuesday night, according to both AD and the Telegraaf.
