Teachers want to strike again, despite millions promised in gov't agreement

The millions of euros the new government set aside for primary education in its government agreement, is not enough for primary school teachers. The majority of them want to plan another strike, according to a survey by general education union AOb, the biggest union in primary education in the Netherlands, RTL Nieuws reports.

The AOb surveyed over 10 thousand teachers and other education staff. 95 percent of them took part in the teacher strike on October 5th. 47 percent of respondents said that the new government's plans for primary education are completely insufficient. And 96 percent said they want the union to arrange further action, 63 percent suggested a national strike.

Whether another strike will be arranged is not yet clear. Other education organizations, such as union CNV and primary school organization PO-Raad, are still polling their members on what they want. A decision will only be made once the results are in.
