Man killed in Spijkenisse shooting
A man was shot and killed while sitting in a car on Rozenlaan in Spijkenisse on Thursday night, the police said on Twitter. As yet no details were released about the victims identity. No arrests were made.
The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. The man was shot through his car window, according to newspaper AD. The police launched a large-scale investigation and a manhunt for the perpetrators. One bullet went through the terrace window of a house on Rozenlaan. The police also did an investigation inside the house.
Around five shots were fired, a local resident said to AD. He looked through the window and saw a black car leaving the scene. He saw the victim slumped behind the wheel of his car. According to the man, the victim was shot in the head and killed immediately. On Twitter the police said they found a critically injured man in the car. A later tweet announced that he died.
Joyce and Ivo de Bruijne came home from feeding the neighbor's cat to find a bullet hole in their window. "When we returned, the neighbor was in a panic on the balcony. We saw the neighbor boy running, he immediately went to look when he heard bangs. Only later we discovered the bullet hole in the glass", Joyce said to AD.
The fire department responded to a car fire on Achterzeedijk in Barendrecht shortly after the shooting. The police are investigating whether these incidents are connected. It is relatively common practice among criminals in the Netherlands to set the getaway car alight after a shooting.
