Suspect arrested for 2005 murder

The police arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with the murder of 35-year-old Caroline van Toledo in 2005. The man from Brielle is suspected of murdering her, ANP reports.

Van Toledo's body was found in the trunk of a burnt out car in the Kruininger Gors nature reserve on September 3rd, 2005. A fire was also set in her Oostvoorne home. The murder caused a lot of unrest.

During the investigation that followed, a number of suspects came into view. The Brielle man was previously arrested in 2007, and was kept in custody until June 2008. He eventually had to be released due to insufficient evidence, but he always remained a suspect.

New technical and tactical investigation revealed enough to take him into custody again, a spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor said to ANP. The suspect was arrested by a Rotterdam SWAT team on Wednesday and will be arraigned on Friday. He is in restricted custody - only allowed contact with his lawyer.
