Toddler, 3, in stable condition after getting stuck in Tilburg carnival attraction
A 3-year-old boy was critically injured when he somehow got stuck under a cart on a fairground attraction at the Tilburg fair on Saturday. He is now in a stable condition and out of danger, alderman Erik de Ridder of the municipality of Tilburg said, Brabants Dagblad reports.
It took rescue workers almost an hour to free the boy. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was treated.
The police issued a statement on behalf of the family on Sunday. "They are overwhelmed by the whole situation, their concern is of course with their child and the future. They went to the hospital with their critically injured child on Saturday. The family wants to announce through this channel that the boy is out of danger and doing reasonably under the circumstances", the police. The family asked that their privacy be respected.
A 27-year-old woman from Borne and a 56-year-old man from Apeldoorn were arrested at the scene on Saturday for hampering the emergency services in their work to save the toddler. According to Tubantia, they tried to stop firefighters from cutting through some metal parts to free the boy. The two also resisted arrest and threatened a police officer. The police officer sustained minor injuries to the face.
After the incident, the Netherlands food and consumer product safety authority NVWA inspected the attraction, wich belongs to a Germran operator. A spokesperson told Brabants Dagblad that the results of the inspection may take some time, but the attraction at least fulfilled all the safety requirements.
