Prosecutor: Limburg terror suspect not a terrorist; released from custody

A 38-year-old Syrian refugee arrested in Brunssum, Limburg last month on suspicion of involvement in terrorist act, was released on Friday. According to the Public Prosecutor, investigation revealed that the man is not involved in terrorism.

The unnamed man was the third terrorism related arrest in the province in a week's time. He was arrested based on information from intelligence service AIVD, which related to an "acute terrorist threat", the Prosecutor said in a statement on Friday.

"The police investigation instituted thereon did not substantiate the suspicion. Additional information from the AIVD, in addition to the results of the investigation, now leads to the conclusion that the man was wrongly associated with a terrorist offense." the Prosecutor said.
