Shots fired at attempted ATM bombing in Amsterdam

A SWAT team of the Amsterdam police fired shots while arresting five people involved in an attempted ATM bombing on IJburglaan on Wednesday morning. No one was injured, the police said. IJburglaan is largely closed to traffic.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal squad is at the scene to clear away explosives set to be used in the ATM bombing. It is not clear how long this will take.

The road closure is affecting Amsterdam bus- and tram traffic, according to Het Parool. Tram line 26 and bus line 66 are not traveling at all. Municipal transit company GVB deployed shuttle buses to transport passengers between Amsterdam Central Station and Bob Haarmslaan.
