Dutch chefs, teachers and doctors experience most pressure at work

Chefs, doctors, lawyers, primary school teachers and managers in business services in the Netherlands experience the most pressure in their jobs, according to a study by Statistics Netherlands.

The statistics office questioned people from common professions in the Netherlands - professions with at least 50 thousand employees - about the amount of work they do and the speed at which they do it.

Chefs say that they are often under pressure because they have to work very fast. Doctors, lawyers, managers and primary school teachers experience pressure because of the high amount of work they need to do. Primary school teachers and doctors also say that their work is emotionally demanding. Lawyers complain about the number of hours they spend behind a computer screen.

According to Statistics Netherlands, occupations with the lowest work pressure are security guards, taxi drivers, gardeners, cashiers and managers in child care.
