Dutch government formation continues; coalition report submitted today

Edith Schippers will present her report on the exploratory talks with the VVD, CDA, D66 and GroenLinks on forming a cabinet to the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, on Monday. Temporary Kamer president Khadija Arib will receive the report at 10:00 a.m., AD reports.

The new Tweede Kamer will debate Schippers' report on Tuesday. On Thursday it was announced that the four parties are all willing to seriously negotiate forming a government together, despite major differences in political viewpoints.

It is expected that Schippers will be appointed as government informer during Tuesday's debate. She will then officially start the negotiations on forming a government with the VVD, CDA, D66 and GroenLinks. During these negotiations the parties will see whether there is a basis for a new government and whether they can agree on policy.

If this succeeds, the Minister and State Secretary positions will be divided between the parties and the new ministers and state secretaries will be appointed and sworn in by King Willem-Alexander.
