Irish gang members arrested in Amsterdam

Two alleged members of an Irish organized crime outfit are in custody in Amsterdam after a failed attempt to assassinate a target in a bar there, according to Irish news site Independent.ie.

A man approached the Amsterdam police at around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday night and reported threatened him with a firearm and then walked into a bar on Rembrandtplein, according to the Dutch police. The suspect and three others were arrested and three others were arrested and three firearms were confiscated. The suspects are two 29-year-olds, a 37-year-old and a 23-year-old, according to the police. They're from Britain and Ireland.

According to the Independent.ie, one of the Irishmen is Gareth Chubb, a "second tier" member of the Kinahan crime cartel. The site reports that Chubb did not just threaten the man, but tried to kill him. And that the "hit" failed because the gun jammed. The other Irish man is a low-level associate from Dublin, according to the site.

The Kinahan cartel seems to have ties with Amsterdam gangs. In April last year Amsterdam criminal Naoufal F. was arrested in a fancy apartment in Dublin which the Irish authorities believe is owned by the cartel. Last week a court in Ireland agreed to extradite him to the Netherlands, where he is wanted for numerous crimes including an attempted assassination on Peter R. in Diemen in 2015. According to the Telegraaf, the Kinahan cartel was linked to firearms and drug trafficker Mink K. in the past.

All four suspects are still in custody. They are expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
