Amsterdam police apologize for cuffing elderly traffic violator

The Amesterdam police apologized for the way in which an elderly Moroccan man was arrested after he committed a traffic violation. The 84-year-ld man was handcuffed and stooping was led to a police van. According to the police, he was arrested because he could not identify himself and gave "a confused impression".

Two videos of the arrest were posted on Facebook and led to outraged reactions. According to relatives of the elderly man on social media, he was pulled over because he was driving next to the bike path. "He was also asked for his passport, but he did not understand because he does not speak Dutch." his granddaughter wrote, according to Het Parool.

The police issued a formal apology on Facebook, saying they regret the state of affairs, and also posted it to the comments on the videos. "The man could not identify himself after a traffic violation and he gave a confused impression. Also in Arabic we could not make contact with him. The man seemed very shocked by the commotion. He will also receive an apology from the police."
