Rotterdam cop re-sentenced to prison for shooting motorist in the back

Rotterdam police officer Deddy S. was convicted of attempted manslaughter by the court in The Hague on Monday. He was sentenced to one month in prison and 240 hours of community service for shooting a motorist in the back, RTL Nieuws reports. S. was given the same sentence in 2014, but the Public Prosecutor appealed. In both the original and the appeal trial the Prosecutor demanded no punishment. The shooting happened in Rotterdam on August 24th, 2012. S. pulled over a driver, Ali Ouaalit for an alcohol check. The check showed that Ouaalit was over the limit and should not be driving. Ouaalit pulled his car away, in his own words to park it. S. fired three shots and hit Ouaalit in the back. Ouaalit suffered a spinal injury and will be confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life. S. later stated that he fired because he was afraid Ouaalit would crash into his colleague. But a reconstruction showed that the other officer was in no danger. According to almost all the witnesses, Ouaalit was driving very slowly.
