Suspects sentenced to prison for 2010 fatal scooter accident

On Monday the court in Den Bosch sentenced two men to prison for a scooter accident in Nijmegen in 2010 that left one man dead. Both were found guilty of death by negligence, NU.nl reports. According to the prosecutor, the two suspects drove a scooter to Hotel Belvoir in Nijmegen on January 15th, 2010 in order to rob the hotel. On the way they encountered a police car and sped off at high speed. They hit a 50-year-old man from Arnhem, who was crossing the street at a pedestrian crossing. He later died of his injuries. The suspects, Mohamed el G. and Mohamed A., were initially acquitted and the Prosecutor turned to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court handed the case over to the court in Den Bosch. The Public Prosecutor demanded 8 years in prison against both suspects. The court in Den Bosch acquitted both suspects of manslaughter, because it can not be proven who was driving the scooter at the time of the accident. Both pointed to the other as the driver. Mohemed el G. was sentenced to four years in prison. Mohamed A. was sentenced to three years and nine months.
