Over 100.000 attend PSV championship party; 9 arrested

More than 100 thousand people gathered on the streets of Eindhoven on Monday to celebrate PSV's victory in the Eredivisie. There were no major incidents during the celebrations and only 9 people were arrested, the Telegraaf reports. The arrests were made because people did not adhere to agreements, for example by climbing over fences that closed the Stadhuis square when it was full, according to the municipality. There were no fights or brawls during the ceremony and party. Ambulances were dispatched 12 times, once due to complications caused by drugs or alcohol. A massive 20 thousand people filled the square to watch the ceremony. The other 80 thousand people celebrated on other squares or along the route the team traveled between the city stadium and Stadhuis square. There were so many people along this route that the trip suffered a 45 minute delay. "It was a super atmosphere", Mayor Rob Gijzel commented to the Telegraaf. "I express my thanks and appreciation to ll the supporters who made this celebration possible." PSV director Toon Gerbrands is also happy with the celebration. "Amazing that a ceremony with more than 100 thousand fans can be celebrated so smoothly. Compliments to the fans and the organization", he said on Twitter.
