Fmr. footballer Seedorf denies Panama Papers accusations

Former football player Clarence Seedorf denies any involvement in illegal practices mentioned in the Panama Papers, his spokesperson said to broadcaster NOS. "The article seems to insinuate something that isn't there", the spokesperson said to NOS. "Seedorf invested his own money in the team and even lost money on it. Seedorf is not aware of any illegal deals or contracts." On Tuesday morning Dutch newspaper Trouw reported that Seedorf is one of hundreds of Dutch named in the papers. According to the newspaper, Seedorf is mentioned in the documents via the sponsorship rights of his former racing team Seedorf Racing. The company signed a sponsorship contract with Image Building Ltd, founded in the Virgin Islands, though via a detour the ultimate sponsor is actually Italian jeweler Morellato. Seedorf Racing received around 600 thousand euros. The contract was then resold several times and was eventually worth 3 million euros. It is unclear what happened to the other 2.4 million, according to the newspaper.
