Netherlands warns of potential Kenya terrorist attacks

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is warning all Dutch currently living or traveling in Kenya to be extra alert for terrorist attacks. Terrorist organization Al-Shabaab directed a threat for "end February, early March" against national and international airports and flights in the country. The travel advice for Kenya was also updated on Monday, AD reports. The Ministry has about 900 Dutch people registered as currently in Kenya. The number may be higher, as not everyone registers where they are going. Each of the registered Dutch in Kenya received a text message on Monday informing them that the Kenyan security forces increased their preparedness for a potential terrorist attack. "Stay alert and be aware of the latest developments", the message reads. "Via the travel advice, but also follow news in the local press closely. Follow the instructions of the authorities." Foreign Affairs decided to issue the warning following a consultation with intelligence service AIVD and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment. A delegation from KLM was also present. KLM is the only Dutch airline that flies to Kenya. So far no flights to the country was cancelled.
